Activation Energy
I have been thinking of this concept a lot lately. I have been struggling with getting simple things started. For instance, I have been walking by my weights for months now. Why don't I just pick them up and knock out a few reps? Well, it's all about activation energy. Now, those particular weights are buried under a pile of papers and other assorted things. The amount of energy I need to actually lift the weights is increased by the effort needed to get started (unbury them). Now I know this seems like a simple thing, but how many time have we all passed by something because if was not easy to get started? What if we lower the amount of work needed to get started...in essence lowering the activation energy? So, I can uncover the weights, put them up at waist level, and place them somewhere convenient. Will this ensure that I exercise? No, but it will stack the odds in my favor. Dang, I guess I will have to start working out now.
Homemade Liquid Dish Soap
I can't wait to try this. Less toxic and saves money. What could be better? I found the recipe here:Homemade Liquid Dish Soap
Mock Fried Rice
I love this recipe when I am trying to cut out carbs or when I need to eat more veggies. You will need:
Cauliflower
Olive Oil
Green Onions
Ham
Soy sauce
Eggs
Peas(optional)
Carrot(optional)
I vary the amount by what I have on hand. Coat heavily with olive oil the bottom of a large skillet. Chop the cauliflower into rice size pieces and add to the pan cooking on high until tender. Add in chopped ham, onions, and carrots/peas if desired. Then push the contents of the pan to one side and all some more oil and crack several whole eggs into the oil. Scramble the eggs in the oil and then stir to incorporate into the mixture. Remove from heat and add soy sauce to taste.

A Few Things
In this economy, my mind had been racing with thoughts about how to save money. I still want to be healthy and not sacrifice my wellbeing. Some topics that are worth further investigation are gardening, making laundry soap, scaling back, biking to work, working from home (remote), canning, back yard chickens, cooking at home, cooking from scratch, thrift stores, bartering, and reusing/repurposing.
So, this all sounds like a lot of work, I wonder if this time of "lay offs" can be used to pursue a more relaxed life. Perhaps this is the time to read more books, go for longer walks, play with your dog, take long lunches, and explore what is right at your own door step.
Today I started blogging....something that I would never have had time for if my work schedule had not been cut back by about 2/3rds. I have been making recordings of relaxation exercises. I wonder where this will take me.

The One Thing...for today.
Welcome to the home of "One Thing". This is a work that will forever be in progress as I explore one thing at a time. I am too much a product of our short attention society to focus on only one thing for long. Come back and explore the many topics that cross my mind. What is on your mind today?
