Activation Energy
I have been thinking of this concept a lot lately. I have been struggling with getting simple things started. For instance, I have been walking by my weights for months now. Why don't I just pick them up and knock out a few reps? Well, it's all about activation energy. Now, those particular weights are buried under a pile of papers and other assorted things. The amount of energy I need to actually lift the weights is increased by the effort needed to get started (unbury them). Now I know this seems like a simple thing, but how many time have we all passed by something because if was not easy to get started? What if we lower the amount of work needed to get started...in essence lowering the activation energy? So, I can uncover the weights, put them up at waist level, and place them somewhere convenient. Will this ensure that I exercise? No, but it will stack the odds in my favor. Dang, I guess I will have to start working out now.
